The debates, hosted by Concern, all deal with topical environmental and social issues. On Thursday,10th October 2024, the team debated the topic: ‘Student Strikes are the Only way for Young People to have a Say on Climate Change.’ Our TY Team was on the proposing side. The 4 debaters for this topic were: Captain Anna Chute, Zara McGrath, Hazel Geary and Abby Stephenson. The Chairperson was Emma Boyce. The Timekeeper was Máire O’Shea and chief Researcher and Advisor was Anna O’Sullivan. The opposition for this debate were the Kinsale Community College. It was an exciting and engaging debate and we await feedback in this League stage from the Concern adjudicators.
The students are currently planning for the 2nd debate in the League when they will oppose the debate : ‘Feeding the World is Increasingly Beyond the Reach of Humanity.’ This debate will take place against Hacketstown, Co Carlow in early November. We wish the team all the best in the next debate.
