Inspired by the Stand Up Campaign initiated by LGBT Ireland and BeLonGTo, the staff at Presentation Secondary School decided that we would join in with the national awareness week to target LGBTQ bullying in schools.
A series of lessons were designed and delivered to all the students from 1st Year to 6th Year. These lessons involved a range of activities from learning LGBT+ inclusive language to making posters that celebrated the unique and diverse population of the school. This encouraged students to have a better understanding of the LGBT+ community, some of the struggles they face, and how to be an inclusive environment to all students - an important aspect of any learning environment.
This week ended with a fantastic display of the students wearing the myriad colours from the LGBT flag to show their support for all people in this community and school. The varied colours represent a lot about our own community here in Presentation Tralee too - that it is bright, varied, and special.
