After an absence of two years, students and staff eagerly await Love Literature Week 2022 which runs from March 28th to April 1st. This year’s theme is freedom in honour of our newly found freedom from covid and in solidarity with the people of Ukraine. The school will be festooned with literary themed posters and students’ art works.
Former past pupil and teacher Norma Foley will kick-start the festivities with a whole school virtual launch. The students will meet an eclectic mix of inspiring artists including Kerry poet, Gabriel Fitzmaurice, award-winning English writer Carrie Jade Williams, YA author E.R Williams, Young Offenders star Shane Casey and popular singer Séamus Harty. Another highlight will be a talk from Tony O'Callaghan who wrote ‘The Kerry Coast’. All first, second and fourth years will visit the cinema on the Thursday for a special screening of Sing 2. There is huge anticipation about the fun filled Dress Up Day on the Wednesday. Meanwhile, there will be black out poetry, guess the teacher’s bookshelf and many more fun activities.
None of this would have been possible but for the fervent fundraising organised by the fourth years. After two cake sales, generous sponsorship from the Tralee community and a monster school raffle, the girls will successfully subsidise Love Literature Week.
