Learning Cycles 2020-2021

What are the Learning Cycles?

In Presentation Secondary School Tralee, the academic year is divided into three learning cycles of approx. 11 weeks. This is designed to give a clearer structure to the school year and a greater consistency across all subjects. It is also an initiative to improve student wellbeing.

 

Learning Cycle 1: Monday 31st August 2020 to Friday 13th November 2020

Learning Cycle 2: Monday 16th November 2020 to Friday 12th February 2021

Learning Cycle 3: Monday 22nd February 2021 to Friday 28th May 2021

 

Reports will be available to view on VSware after each Learning Cycle.

First Year

Maximum two informal classroom assessments per subject.

Maximum two assessments

  • One informal classroom assessment
  • One formal assessment (February House Exams)

Maximum two assessments

  • One informal classroom assessment
  • One formal assessment (End of year House Exams)

Second Year

Maximum two classroom assessments per subject one of which may be a Junior Cycle Classroom Based Assessment * (CBA)

Maximum two assessments

  • One of which may be a Junior Cycle Classroom Based Assessment * (CBA)
  • One formal assessment (February House Exams)

Maximum two assessments

  • One of which may be a Junior Cycle Classroom Based Assessment * (CBA)
  • One formal assessment (End of year House Exams)

Third Year

Maximum two classroom assessments per subject one of which may be a Junior Cycle Classroom Based Assessment * (CBA)

Maximum two assessments

  • One of which may be a Junior Cycle Classroom Based Assessment * (CBA)
  • One formal assessment (Junior Cycle Mock Exams)

Assessment Tasks (AT) will take place in Learning Cycles 2  and 3 are subject specific. These dates are noted on the school calendar.

Maximum one assessment

  • One of which may be a Junior Cycle Classroom Based Assessment * (CBA)

 

* CBA dates are subject specific and noted on school calendar.


Transition Year/ 5th Year and 6th Year

Senior students will also follow the three Learning Cycles. Assessment will vary across subject areas.

February/ Mock Exams and end of year exams will take place at the same time as those for Junior Students
