ECA Sport Update October 2024

Rugby
The Pres Tralee Junior and Senior 7s rugby teams travelled to Ballincollig RFC Thursday 17th October to take part in the South Munster Blitz. Our 26 students played 4 games in each age grade against schools including St. Mary’s Mallow, Coláiste Ide Dingle, Kinsale Community School and Bandon Grammar School. Our Seniors won 4 out of 4 featuring Emma Dunican who was featured on the Munster Women’s Squad last summer. Our Juniors won 3 out of 4. The squads will take part in the Munster X7s Blitz in Rockwell College after mid term.

Camogie
Both our Junior and Senior camogie squads have been busy this term. On September 24th we entered two squads into the South West 7s camogie blitz, held in Causeway GAA. Pres Tralee 1 and Pres Tralee 2 were in separate groups and remained unbeaten throughout the day beating Mounthawk 1 and 2, Causeway 1 and 2 and Pres Castleisland 1 and 2. It was an all Pres Tralee final where both of our ‘Team Tillys’ faced one another. The game ended in a draw 1-1 a piece and Pres Tralee were crowned South West 7 Champions. The Senior squad have played two Kerry Colleges games versus Causeway Comprehensive and Mounthawk, narrowly losing out both games by one point. They won their first round of Munster Intermediate Cup versus Colaiste Ide agus Iosef and will face Ballingarry next. The Junior Camogie squad have been successful in their Kerry Colleges games, defeating Kanturk CS, Pres Castleisland and face Kinsale CS today in their Munster campaign.

Football
The U16.5 footballers took on Presentation Listowel on the 20th of September in Na Gaeil GAA but unfortunately Listowel came out on top.

Soccer
Our 1st and 2nd Year Soccer Team took part in the Kerry League Blitz held in the KDL on Monday 14th of October. 21 students took part in the fixture in preparation for the upcoming Munster Cup.

Basketball
The Pres Panthers, newly promoted to the A grade basketball league, have played two fixtures versus Colaiste Na Sceilge and Scoil Phobail Sliabh Luachra. Both away games, the cadette and senior Pres Panthers were defeated but not without a fight. Both fixtures were highly contested. Looking forward we face Pres Killarney at home on Friday 25th October and Pres Milltown and Intermediate School Kilorglin later.

Congratulations to Evie O Sullivan, 2nd Year Pres Panther, who was selected for the South West Basketball regional squad. Evie, has been training throughout the summer with the squad in preparation for the Inter Regional Tournament which took place last weekend.

Athletics
Two Presentation Tralee students, Alannah Crossan and Laura Heaphy 2nd Year, travelled to Nenagh Tuesday 15th of October for the Munster Schools Indoor Combined Events. Both students had great performances including a high jump personal best for Alannah at 149cm. Upcoming athletics includes the North Munster Cross Country Championships which we have a large interest in especially at 1st year Minor age group.
