Below is a list of just some of the fantastic opportunities afforded to your daughter when she becomes part of Presentation Secondary School, Tralee.
Academic Excellence – Presentation Tralee has a long tradition in academic excellence and each year Leaving Certificate and Junior Cycle students continue to achieve fantastic results. In 2018, 25% of our Leaving Certificate students achieved 500 points or more.
Book Club – Students are encouraged to get lost in a book in our dedicated reading room. The first-year book club meets once a week to share thoughts and opinions on the latest read.
Computer and Coding Club – Students from all year groups are given computer classes where their digital literacy is enhanced through games and projects in one of our two fully equipped computer rooms. Students can also join the school’s Coding Club where they will learn the basics of computer coding and programming.
Drama – Drama club gives students who like performing on stage a chance to increase their confidence and performance ability. Transition Year students complete Speech and Drama examinations as part of their English program.
Enterprise – Students from 1st Year and Transition Year participate in the Kerry Student Enterprise Awards every year. Students create and run their own mini company and learn valuable skills such as idea generation, research, advertising and accounting.
Fundraising – We encourage the holistic development of all our students. This includes instilling in them the importance of giving back to the community around us. Pres girls are actively involved with many charities including St Vincent De Paul and Jigsaw.
Gaisce Award – Our Transition Year students participate in the Gaisce Awards every year. Gaisce, The President's Award, is a prestigious award earned by people between the ages of 15 and 25 for participating in several challenges including: community involvement, personal recreation and adventure journey.
Health Promotion – We host several events throughout the year to encourage students to stay active and to maintain positive mental health. These include; Students Get Active Week, Mental Health Week and our annual School Sports Day. The Student Representative Council plays a vital role in organising and running these events throughout the year.
Induction Week – Our 1st Year Students begin their Pres Tralee journey with an Induction Programme called ‘Tús Maith Transition and Induction Programme’. This programme aims to help orientate the girls to the expectations and operations of Presentation Secondary School. It focuses on friendship formation, confidence building, becoming part of a new school community, and the general orientation challenges of coping with a new timetable, new subjects, new teachers and the layout of a new school.
Journalism Club – This club is run in conjunction with the English and Art departments. Our budding journalists are encouraged to capture all the news and events in the school, all of which are proudly displayed on the school’s social media and website as well as the school noticeboards.
Keep fit – Students can choose to get involved in a number of sporting activities including; Athletics, Basketball, Spike ball, Football and Circuit training.
Love Literature Week – During Love Literature Week the school is transformed into a wonderland of literary appreciation. Music, mayhem, rhythm and rhyme take over the corridors as students and teachers take part in several workshops and events such as poetry aloud, six-word stories and the infamous love literature fancy dress parade!
Music and Culture – The school choir and traditional music group give students a chance to express themselves musically. Transition Year students participate in cultural walks of the local area and attend workshops with local musicians to develop their appreciation further.
National Competitions – Pres Tralee is always well represented at national competitions such as The Young Scientist, Junk Kouture, Build-a-Bank and the CEIST All-Ireland Bake-Off.
Orienteering – Orienteering is a sport which combines running, hiking and map reading. Students build confidence and teamworking skills while also having lots of fun!
Polytunnel – Presentation Tralee offers students a unique experience to develop their gardening skills in the school’s Polytunnel. Students can join the Gardening Club where they will learn how to grow and harvest organic produce.
Quality Teaching and Learning – Quality teaching and learning is at the heart of our school. We have robust procedures in place to continuously monitor, challenge and support the quality of teaching and learning in the school in order to ensure our students achieve to the best of their abilities
Reflection and Prayer – The school’s prayer room offers students a safe, quite place to reflect, pray, meditate or gather their thoughts. Promoting spiritual development is a key value of CEIST which guides us as a school community. Our students are also given the opportunity to become Eucharistic ministers and to perform Liturgical movement and mime.
Supervised Study – Two hours supervised study is offered to students every evening as well as Saturday study. This provides the student with an opportunity to complete homework assignments or study for examinations.
Tours and Trips – Students in all year groups participate in several trips and tours throughout the school year. These include the 1st and 2nd year school tours and the TY and 5th years foreign trips.
University and College Preparation – The guidance councillors in the school organise several workshops and events to help prepare students for college and university. These include CV and interview workshops, third level peer information mornings and college speakers.
VSware – Presentation uses the VSware school administration platform to record student information such as attendance, behaviour and achievements. Parents/guardians may log in to this system to check on their daughter’s progress in the school.
Work Experience – Students are offered a chance to enter the world of work during Transition Year and 5th Year LCVP. This provides invaluable experience with interview skills, CV preparation and time management.
Xtra Curricular – Other extracurricular activities available in the school include; Craft Club, Film Club, Sign Language, Music Lessons, Photography, Animation, School Bank, Green Schools Committee and Maths Club.
Yoga – Early morning Yoga classes are offered in the school gym to allow students to learn breathing techniques, meditation and healthy movement.
Zero Tolerance – We operate a zero-tolerance approach to bullying or aggressive behaviour in our school.
