1st Year Football-Presentation Cup

May 10, 2019

On 8th May, nineteen 1st Year students travelled to Dr. Crokes GAA in Killarney where they faced Presentation Killarney in their first match of the Presentation Cup. The Presentation Cup is a competition ran between several schools founded by the Presentation Sisters including Presentation Listowel, Presentation Killarney, Presentation Castleisland and Presentation Tralee. From the offset, the intensity and effort put in by both teams was high with many goals coming early in the match. Great teamwork was shown with Lisa Rowan captaining the side from midfield along with Ella Quirke. Ciara Kerins, Lauren McGillicudy and Orla O Connor did their best to protect the goalie which changed throughout the game (Sandra Marshall and Abby Leahy). Ciara Kerins is commended for her runs upfield to get the ball out of danger. The halfback line including Kaylyn Scannell, Rachel Byrne and Abby Leahy/Sandra Marshall provided a solid wall of defense that Presentation Killarney had to work hard to breach. Our midfield duo, Lisa Rowan and Ella Quirke, along with Amber Sugrue at wing forward contested hard to work the ball upfield. Further towards the Killarney goal, Lucie O Donoghue, Ruth O Neill, Allie Tarrant, Kate Feeney and Roisin Raggett produced scores to keep Pres Tralee in contest. In the second half, Ava Sugrue, Clodagh Fitzgibbon, Nicole Walker and Maiya Rivas McHugh came in to show Pres Killarney what they can as fresh legs.

At the final whistle, Presentation Killarney proved too strong and came out on top after hard work against our 1st Years. Coaches Ms.Sheehy and Dell White commend the girls on their fantastic effort and team spirit.

Major thanks go to Presentation Killarney, Dr. Crokes GAA, the referee and Powers Buses.
