Presentation Secondary School Tralee celebrates the highly anticipated, high octane extravaganza that is Love Literature Week from Monday 26th, Feb – Friday 2nd of March 2018. The theme this year is ‘A Day out Of Kerry Is a Day Wasted’ a salute to the wise observation of the late great Padraig Kennelly of Kerry’s Eye. Music, mayhem, rhythm and rhyme will be the order of the day for staff and students alike.
A myriad of sizzling, spectacular and sensational Kerry themed events are organised for each year group. These include workshops with celebrated poet Gabriel Fitzmaurice and acclaimed international novelist Rósín Meaney. A taste of film and the world of film-making hosted by Kerry’s Filmmaker in Residence, Mieke Vanmechelen, is one of the most anticipated events of the week. Students will showcase their literary prowess in a variety of writing competitions including - Six Word Stories, Black Out Poetry and Short Stories to name but a few. A novel event this year is Poetry In The Poly Tunnel a lunchtime literary experience hosted by third year students.
The organising committee are also honoured to host An Audience with Tomi Reichental – Author, Filmmaker, Holocaust survivor. Mr Reichental will share his personal witness and experience of the Holocaust with Presentation students at the Rose Hotel, Tralee. Another highlight, of course will be, the annual, much loved Dress In Character Day where students are invited to strut their stuff and parade in costumes of their choice based on characters from literature. Prizes galore are to be had on the day for the most inventive costumes. TY students will also visit Siamsa Tíre to experience Verdant Productions interpretation of Michael Morpurgo’s Private Peaceful. A private viewing for students of the smash hit The Greatest Showman at the Omniplex cinema, will bring the week to an end. Phew!
