The Maths department has a strong commitment towards enabling every student to reach their full potential in terms of achievement in the subject.
A wide range of resources are used to enhance the learning of students including I.T., puzzles such as Sudoku, board games, playing cards, quizzes etc.
The progress of students is monitored continuously and students are assessed on an ongoing basis through teacher observation of class work, regular class tests, common house exams at Christmas and Summer etc.
Mathematics is an essential tool in science-based subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Applied Maths as well as Business, Geography and I.T.
There are 5 strands in Project Maths:
Strand 1: Statistics & Probability
Strand 2: Geometry & Trigonometry
Strand 3: Algebra
Strand 4: Numbers
Strand 5: Functions
Maths is compulsory for all students.
All 5 First year classes are mixed ability and follow a common course with common house examinations.
In Second & Third years there are 5 maths classes, with 3 of them running parallel. This allows movement of students between higher & ordinary levels.
Higher level starts in second year.
